I don't have any use for a cell phone, but I know those who do can choose any tune from Atomic Kitten to Zombienation. There are even lists of the 10 most popular ringtones, divided into different musical categories. Maybe you don't have a tune, but a sound effect. We have a friend (we'll call him Travis), who is alerted to his calls by a crowing rooster. Now that can get pretty annoying. Even so, the sound effectively identifies to Travis calls coming from his phone and not somebody else's. It's a great system, but it has it's limitations. I've heard more than one cell phone trill with the same sound.
Now consider the callers themselves. It never ceases to amaze me how I can identify any one woman out of all the women I know just by the sound of her voice. Approximately 6,661,000,000 people are alive today and each has a different voice pattern. Same with fingerprints, faces, etc. No two alike. Don't you find this incredible? The only explanation is God loves diversity. As the Bible says, He created us for His good pleasure. He wanted individuals He could love--People, not robots, who could love Him back.
I love the way the Lord treats us as individuals. He knows each one of us intimately, and His desire is for us to know Him the same way. He says:
"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;" and "I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."
The thing about voice recognition is that it works both ways. Those who know The Lord Jesus Christ personally know his voice and can't be fooled into following a "hireling" down the path to destruction.
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (Jesus in John 10)
Jesus' is a voice above all others worth getting to know.
