Mother Cat Man

They call him the Cat Man. He shuffles beneath our apartment building, dispensing food, care and affection to the droves of cats that come seeking refuge. He names them (that's Ears in the photo) and he protects them. He intercedes when human tenants try to chase them away, wisely pointing out the cats keep out rats. And it's true. Since our feline friends have moved in, we've not found any more mice in the toilet bowl (long story) or anywhere else.

Since the Cat Man takes such loving care of his cats, you could say he is both mother and father to them. I thought about him when I was meditating on Mother's Day and the Bible verse that says:

"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up." Psalm 27:10

I got to thinking about all the people, young and old, who don't have active, caring mothers--those whose mothers either have abandoned them or have died. And it's a comfort to know, no matter what becomes of our earthly parents, if we trust in Jesus Christ, as those cats trust in the Cat Man, He will always take care of us.

BTW, the Cat Man is my husband, and I think I'm the only one who calls him that.

Oh, and while we're on the subject of inspiring parenting, check out this family of 17+ kids: Duggar family (Their house is awesome too!)

Aw. Happy Belated Mother's Day Lydia and Cat Man. You guys are on my short list of inspirational parents— not surprisingly all have Christ to pattern their parenthood after.
BTW— The Duggars are expecting their 18th!
